Maree French worked as a homebirth midwife while raising and homeschooling her four children
In 1995, Maree’s neighbour, a sexual predator, began harassing and stalking her and even followed her when she moved town to escape him. One brutal attack left Maree unconscious and seriously injured.
In 1997, this man threatened her children. Knowing that police won’t act until a child is murdered, Maree confronted him. The coward ran to the police. The irony of it: the abuser becomes the “abused” – and it worked for him!
Maree faced trial in 1998. After a mistrial, Maree went on the run and was captured sixteen years later. In 2016, she stood trial again and was convicted.
No Second Chance tells the story of Maree’s time in Brisbane Women’s Prison and Numinbah Prison.
Her upcoming second publication, Ned & Kelly, will tell the story of those years of stalking and abuse and her years on the run.
